picasso clowns

Interesting thread.

Great babies Coraldude.

We have "Picasso's" over here in Japan, but they are sold as Jigsaw Clowns. Price is outrageous, last one I saw was 47000 yen (500 USD give or take).

These were bred by TMC in England.

I think to actually be able to identify a "Picasso" clown, we need to set, or take a standard. If the standard is gonna be the infamous ORA "Picasso" clowns...then any other potential "picasso" has to be similar to it in order to qualify as such..

In my opinion..I have not seen ANY like the ORA clowns..but the closest one has been Embryoguy's new clown..which is absolutely amazing..Maybe he'll chime in and post a picture.

Those are most likely to be "Snowflake" A. ocellaris. Not Picasso's which are A. percula.

What you are saying would be nearly impossible to do. Unless you are looking at much older fish (> 3 yrs). As these fish are A.percula, they develop the striping very slowly. Just as they do w/ their black coloration (onyx). When these fish leave the hatchery they are only 6 to 12 months old. Much too young to have fully developed stripes/color. If you do a search here in RC you will find several threads where people talk about the additional patterns that have developed on their fish that they have had 6 months to a year.

If fact, as to the exact percentage that are picasso's is truly unknown. Because they are all sold before fully developing. So there may be a lot of people out there who purchased a regular A. percula and they get a big surprise 9 months later! But what is sold as being a "picasso" is very low.

It would be a better idea to pair up two F1s while keeping the production that you do have steady. But these need to mature and that takes time :)

Thanks Oama.

Now that you mention it, that's exactly what they were.

Was going to post a pic, but of course now I need a pic, all the fish here have been sold!

Are ORA going to start producing these?

I for one would love to get my hands on some.

While you're herer just wanted to say well done once again to ORA for your marketing/exports over here in Japan. Before you guys started exporting, every clown I saw was wild caught. Now shops are selling domestic bred Ocellaris and cinammons and we are seeing these from TMC in the UK. Shops are finally realised that tank-bred equals better success for the novice marinekeeper, not to mention less DOA for them.
