Picasso Trigger in a 75G

I am currently in the process of converting a 75G reef tank to a FOWLR in order to cut some maint. time. I will still have a 30g sump, aqua medic turboflotor skimmer, 4x54W T5 light, 110lb LR, and am adding a UG filter with ~100lbs crushed coral.

The change is coming in part due to moving the tank to a new house, so I am waiting until I can confirm stable chemistry before picking up some inhabitants. I think I've decided to accomodate my wife's wishes to get a small Picasso (humu-humu?) trigger, but wanted to hear what everyone would recommend as colorful tankmates... I know triggers need bigger tanks, but what else could I get? Any suggestions?
 
yeah, a Big YS maroon would be cool...

Maybe a smaller lion like a radiata?

A yellow tang maybe?
 
Thanks for recommendations. A small lionfish sounds cool - I'll have to read up on them, but I previously thought they needed to be kept separate? Being venomous, won't other fish be at a disadvantage? Maybe some lionfish owners could let me know...
 
I have a small picasso and believe it or not, he is the model citizen in my tank. I keep him with a GSM, Midas Blenny, and Potter's Angel, and he doesn't bother any of them, just cruises around all day. Great fish, comes to the top front of the glass when it sees anyone approach, constantly swimming through the rockwork and hunting, and looks awesome as well.
 
The lionfish is the only fish in my tank that the trigger bows to it pretty cool Roy (trigger) is Mufasa's (lionfish) beeoch. He doesnt bother the other fish except at feeding time and he will eat out of my hand. Ive had him for 2 yrs and love him. Hes got a great personality and brings some life to the tank. Go for it. Also lionfish are beautiful and wont bother other fish unless there small.
 
Roy? ....I thought Scar or Zazu was Mufasa's beeatch! Thanks for responding, but since it seems like you have more than a trigger and lionfish, what other fish do you have in your 75g, and how big are they?
...and is Roy a humuhumu trigger?

Last question - What type of lionfish? Zebra, Volitans, Red?

I currently have ~110lbs LR, and am considering moving some to the 30g sump to provide more room to move around - How much LR do you have in your 75?

Sorry for all the questions, but it seems you could help me out a lot since you have a simlar tank that has been established!

I have about 100 lbs LR scopas tang, voltaire lion, potters angel (not doing good), Clarkii Clown, foxface, pixy hawk and a black with white spots grouper. There something up with my tank tang is getting ick and clown has popeye. Never had probs with these fish before. Trigger is 4", lion is 3", foxface is 3.5" and tang is 2-3". hawk is about 3" also, grouper is 1.5" and clown is 2". I havent added a sump yet and am running a XP2 canister with bio rings and filter media. Have two giant snails. There are alot of hiding spaces and the rock is in the back stacked like a horshoe. My tank is a little rough right now b/c i had rearrange everything b/c the tang was picking on the angel. It did the trick though.
 
7 fish in a 75G with 100lbs of LR and no sump?

I am brand new to FO tanks, but this seems a lot to me even though all are fairly small.... Can someone else comment? What's up with your tank may be the bioload - XP2 is rated up to 75G. Also no protein skimmer which I thought was a necessity in SW tanks... is it?

no disrespect, but I am asking to understand myself as well.
 
Have a Coralife superskimmer, well its down to 6 fish now the potters angel is gone, never got it to feed. I change at least 10gal of water out every week like clock work.
 
Definately need a sump and a fuge. I find that regular feedings keep aggression down but in your tank with no fuge could be asking for algae bloom. Fish will be happier but tank will be unsitely. A couple of those dudes you got are going to get big and mean and will be trouble in a 75g. At those sizes all will be well for now and when they get larger you can get that 180g you want.
 
Had it set up this way for 3yrs. I do get some algae but it doesnt get out of control. Use a phosphate media in the canister.
