Pick Clean-Up Crew for 24 Gal NC

Hi:

OK, I am through my Namonia Cycle, Namonia is 0, Nitrite is 0, and Nitrate is very low. Getting my Algea Bloom now- brown on the sand, green on the glass.

I have 2 Turbos and 3 Blue legs.

I will not be adding any fish for 2-3 more weeks- letting things really settle first.

So, as things sit now, is this OK, or should I add some more? What should I add? I have my eye on a blood/fire shrimp...

My plan is to add a Clown (maybe 2- is a pair a good idea?), a six-line and maybe a Comet/Marine Beta. Probably one fish a month.

I also will be adding some corals.

So, what order? COrals first, or fish. Or one of each a month?

I have a 24 gallon nano.

My cleanup crew is (All from Premium Aquatics)

4 Baha Hermits (Was 5, I think there was a fight and 1 lost).
3 Cernith Snails
2 Nassarius Snails

The Nassarius do a great job with the sandbed. I NEVER see them except late at night when the lights are off because they are always under the sand.

I got a sebae clownfish to start with.

He is full of personality and very hardy which is good for us newbies.

If you don't mind a semi-agressive fish to start with pseudochromis are a good starter fish.


Here is a picture of my tank from 5 days ago and after being set up for 2 months.

You can see how clean the sand is.


My advice:

Get 2 Nassarius snails.

Get the clown to start with and change your stocking list to a fish every other month.

The algae will go away over time. I kept wanting it to be gone sooner but just let it run it's course.

Keep just the 3 hermits. Odds are you might lose one sometime and you can either replace it or if your in my boat get an emerald crab for a bubble algae problem.

Questions:
What kind of corals are you wanting to keep?

Does the Turbo snails clean the inside of the glass or the back wall? If not the Cernith Snails do a good job for me, might be worth picking one up if you can locally.

i would add a few more hermits and a few nassairus and serth snails
then corals
then fish last
fish produce the most waste

Thanks for the replies. Coral first, then fish. Kinda what I thought, too. SHould I also wait 2 months between major additions, or can corals go in a bit quicker?

Colin: Pretty tank! RE Corals, I was just figuring Mushrooms, zoos and stuff like that, no hard corals...

i don't think it would be bad if you added a few softies at a time

but wait a month after adding some softies to add fish

but i agree with colin no hard corals
