Dr Roy thinks he may be a Haptosquilla trispinosa...these are some of the best shots I've been able to get since he doesn't come much farther out of his cave.

Now that I can see it better, I would say that it is definitely Haptosquilla, but probably not trispinosa. There are several Haptosquilla that it could be. It looks most like H. banggai to me, but without examining it, we probably won't know for sure.

Hmm ok cool - is there anything I can try to get pictures of that might help with a more positive ID? Perhaps using a polarized lens on my camera?
 
All the members of this group have polarized first maxillipeds, so that won't help. Some of the key characters are the shape of the rostral plate, the telson, and the two adbomenal segments directly in front of the telson.

Yeah I shone my LED flashlight on him and looked at him through my polarized camera lens and as I rotated the lens I could see the color appear and dissapear on the maxillipeds - it was way cool!
