Thanks for posting these! We really did have an amazing weekend in Long Island, brought back some fantastic fish, and thoroughly enjoyed our time "Chez Grippo"! Thanks to everyone who met up with us and shared in a great time of collecting!
It's actually a Pompano. Here is a comparison pic I lifted from the U. of Florida web page -- Permit left, Pompano right. Anal and dorsal are different shape as well as yellow in the Pomp.
George, I also brought home a cunner (the green wrasse) and he looks nothing like this. Check it out in your book. He looks like a slippery dick to me. Anyone else want to weigh in?
We brought home 2 permits and 3 pompanos. The permits have a dark hue to the back of their bodies that looks a little like soot. And the NEVER STOP MOVING! (Or eating for that matter!)
I know, Bigsink! We ended up donating a group of them several years ago to a pet shop for their eel tank when they got over 4"! But now I have a predator tank I need large fish for so they don't end up being eaten by a tankmate...
