u mean this?... im not sure what the heck it is... its been in my tank forever... can anyone identify this? does it need to be removed?

The yellow thing is some type of sponge. Very common and doesn't need to be removed.

go to Target.. in the Bathroom section you can find those in an array of sizes and they come with suction cups.. cost like 2 bucks...works great.

Thanks... when i first started I was impatient and jumped into things.... I lost sooo much livestock... now im taking it slow.
