I like to use either a 14 or 20k bulb because there is no way to do actinic supplements. If I used actinic 36 inch supplements you would have to duck under the lighting just to see the tank.
The tank bottom is 25 inches off the ground so you walk right up to it and the top of the tank is about waist high and the lighting is about 18in above the surface.
I have tried about 5-6 different K bulbs and the bluer is better for top down viewing with out supplements.
I am sure the lighting would look different looking through vs down.

bigmayreefer-all of the pumps are on in the pics. 2 seio 620 and a rio hf14 for the return. I have the return and power heads positioned so there is very little surface agitation. I have found that about twice a week I will have to point one towards the surface to break up the dust, protein film that develops on the surface. The tank does have 9 square feet of exposed surface without a canopy.

I was thinking about for Pictures only using 10k.. I agree for viewing the higher K being better with no way to supplement actinics.

Either way I think the Pic's look great!

d.french I will give you a buzz this week. Today was hectic! You can come by this weekend or next and get some. They reproduce like crazy so they are not going anywhere.
