no it won't hurt the clam, they are tube worms and will grow bigger as they get more cacium, i have a bunch of them in my tank and are really annoying when they shoot out that slime, looks like a spider web, then they draw it in their mouths.
I belive thoes arent actualy worms, they actualy are mollusks, I think they are actualy sesile sanils, I forgot the name something with a V, theres a reefkeeping mag article on them.
