Pics of wild carpet anemones from Singapore

Those aren't merten's carpets. They are indeed gigantea. Most of them have more colorful verrucae than we are use to seeing but a merten's carpet's spots go all the way down to the foot becoming more dense and more red as they go. In addition, merten's carpets don't hold themselves with folds, although it was hard to see that because most of the pics are in very shallow water, not even deep enough to hold the anemone up.

There were a couple haddoni on the North shore page, but I don't think I saw one that I thought was a merten's.

Great link. Thanks for sharing.

Agreed:You beat me to it... Wish I can get a hand on some of those beauties.

Interesting... I guess I just saw the magenta colored verrucae and assumed they were mertensii. I just haven't seen gigantea in these color morphs, beautiful and unique animals! It's kind of amazing they can naturally live in the intertidal areas and yet can be so difficult to acclimate to our aquariums.

Only the first one under the words "Giant carpet anemones on Singapore shores" appears to be a mertens. I could be wrong though. The rest appear to be gigs. :)
