Wish I could take credit, but the eggcrate was all Jason's idea. If you're anywhere close to Cullman, you should send us a PM. He really digs setting up a new tank and would most likely lend a hand for a little frag of something he doesn't already have.
I agree, I love the open rock work blaked. Our tangs enjoy having something to swim through and under. That's another thing the eggcrate is good for - they like to swim sideways under there along the sand bottom. Especially the blue hippo, she's such a goof.
At first I worried they'd rake their sides on the eggcrate or something, but I decided they could get the same injury on a rock, so I quit worrying. We were careful to sand off any little sharp edges from where we made cuts.
Did you use any two-part epoxy or glue to keep the arches in the rock work together?
How much rock did you have in the tank? I love the massive rock work with the very open design. It looks very natural and not at all like a-wall to-wall fruit stand despite the amount of rocks you have in the tank. I know that a lot of SPS keepers nowadays use much less rocks than 1 lb per gallon rate to give enough growing room, but I also like good looking open rock work as well.
