pimafix/hypo

I have a blueface angel and a few other fish in a qt which i am treating for ich.The ich never got real bad but they are under hypo on the 3rd week of this. The blueface angel got a bacterial infection on his fin and it caused some cotton on his fin maybe from the ich that he had.My question is can i use pimafix along with hypo or has anyone tried it?I called api but tbh his answer was yes but then said have never done any testing on this.I think his answer should have been i dont know but i thought i would ask here and see if anyone has tried it?

DONT PUT IT IN!!! I PUT MELAFIX in my hypo tank, and my butterfly started acting very funny. i just performed a 70% water change in hopes of flushing the melafix out!!

i dont have melafix i have pimafix..i am not sure how diffrent they are but i guess i will try to find something else that treats it.Most antibacterial medicines have the adverse affect of hurting biological filtration.I dont want to deal with ammonia wars in my qt which is why i ordered pimafix.

the butterfly just died. i have never seen something kill a fish so fast. the fish was fine before. eatting, swimming around.

Wow i am sorry to hear that.I know there are things like maracyn 2 for saltwater..maybe i will try that instead.I am very surprised that it had that affect on the fish as its supposed to be mostly natural ingredients.

the problem using melafix or pimafix in saltwater is the o2 drops considerably. i do not see where the hypo/mel or pimafix combo in conjunction could effect either. its two seperate things. if you dumped it in a qt tank with little flow or o2 saturation then the levels probably bottomed out all at once and the butterfly suffocated. they are pretty delicate to sudden changes in any form from my experiance. out of curiosity what was your salinity at?

i only used melafix but thought pimafix might have similar results.

i have a koralia 1 in the tank AND an airstone. i also have a biowheel 250 for filte/circulation. SG was at 1.009.

i have lost butterfly's after two or three days of hypo. seems like any thing below 1.017 causes liver failure in those guys. im not an expert and havent done a biopsy but i know thats affecting them.

the cotton on the blue faces fins are they in a ball/ cauliflower shape if it is than your most likely dealing with lymphosyctis which to my nowledge there are no known cures the best thing for it is to reduce strees and leave the fish alone for a few weeks with pristene water conditions and proper nutrition the angel should recover on his own good luck

Yes mustang after doing some more research i am leaning tword thinking it is Lymphocystis.I have decided to not treat at this point.I am gonna let it be and just hit the food with vita chem and garlic and hope for the best.

I have never treated a butterfly fish but it sounds like butterfly fish may be sensative to hypo...i am sure if you asked enough people you may get people that say they are sensative to copper as well.I think in the end they are just delicate fish and it can be tough to treat them.

the butterfly ate very well from sunday through yesterday evening (as SG dropped to 1.009), so I am just not sure. my coral beauty angel is doing well.

in my experience the butterflys i had also did well thru the first few days of hypo. but on around the third or fourth day they would start with labored breathing and die shortly after

yup....taht sounds like my situation. i took about 3 days to bring the SG down to 1.009. then thursday the dorsal fin looked bad and he passed shortly thereafter.
