My niece just started a small tank. She has some type of pink coloured algie. Is it some type of cyano bacteria?

Any help in identification and treatment would be greatly appreaciated .

That Looks like Cyano bacteria starting..

Its common in a new setup but can get out of control or go away Depending on your tank setup equip and water Quality..

Do you use ro/di water for water changes ?
How often you do water changes?
how much water do you change?
How Much do you feed? (over feeding.VERY Common mistake for newbie)
How long your Lights are on
Quality of Lights and Color of them

What will be needed to really help is more info about your tank setup and Maintenance routine. As well and most importantly Water chemistry... Need results of Nitrate and Phosphate test ...

I can't really tell in this picture, but is there any pump circulation going on in there? Low water flow can also be a common cause for Cyano.
