im in the middle of upgradeing from a 110 to a 240 acrylic tank and i was wondering if it would be ok to use the 1/2 inch pink foam they sell at homedepot to put under the tank? and if so are there any bad long term afeccts from useing the pink foam any input would be greatly helpful thanks

Yuo need to put some kind of foam under there. I currently have the same pink foam under my 600, also had foam under the last tank (240).
No long term effects, well the tank is still together, and thats a good thing.

great thanks any input on the safest hight for the halides over the acrylic ive never had a acrylic tank so its all new to me and dont want to tweak the top of the tank thanks again

For my tanks, I don't particularly care how high the MH bulbs are just as long as the bulbs and (at least) most of the reflector is not directly over acrylic. Just make sure to center the bulbs over the top access openings.
FWIW, I kept my reflectors 3-4" above the water, bulbs were prolly 7" or so above the water.
As for the foam, ask your tank mfr what they think and if it affects your warranty at all, opinions vary on this subject.

HTH,
James
