Pink Skunk Clown

Do Pink Skunk Clowns usually hide? I just put him in the tank, and he's hiding. I was just wondering/hoping that is normal.

It's generally always normal for new additions to seek refuge and be very timid. New surrounding for the little guy can be quite unsettling. Turn the lights out and give him some time. I am sure he will be out and about in no time.

I hope. He looks pretty healthy and he ate at the pet store before I bought him. He's hanging out with my Engineer Goby under a rock, so at least I know nothing bad will happen between the two.

Also I was wondering if I could add another Pink Skunk next week or so since I couldn't get two today.

Yes, just make sure they are different sizes.

The larger clown is always the female, so getting a much smaller one will help them pair up.

I also was reading that Male Pink Skunk Clowns have more of an orange line around there back fin, while females do not.

I have a male.

Pretty sure that all Clowns can change sexes. So your larger clown will always change to female.

It is fine for them to hide right away. Keep the lights and the room light low/off for a day to ease him in a little.

My Tangs never hid at all. My Watchman hid for almost a week, and my 6-Line hid for 2-3 days.

I just hate adding fish because you never know what the fish might have...and then all your fish are gone. So I'm very paranoied at the moment, until I see that the fish is truely parasite free.

For small fish like the clowns a simple 10 gallon would work. They don't need a lot of space for QT.

They sell 10 Gallons in walmart or petco for $10-$11.

Clowns are notorious for bacterial infections. Buy Tank Raised whenever possible.

I just added a clown last night also and it quickly dissapeared for the night, its out today but still hides with any quick movements.

I have noticed no difference ( besides size ) between my male and female pink skunk. The female is just under twice as big. I wouldn't be too concerned with the hiding right now, since it is still fairly new. When/if you get another one, make sure to find one that is smaller then your current one.

My pair for the most part stay in their anemone, venturing out to eat, but pretty much stay on the left side of the tank -- where the anemone is.

I had a pair of pink skunks for over a year. No difference in their coloration or markings. They were very shy compared to my tomatoes and maroons. They seldom ventured more than six inches away from their anemone. All clowns are born male. The largest clown living within the anemone turns into a female. There is usually one dominant male and several smaller males. If the female is lost, the dominant male changes to a female and one of the smaller males becomes the dominant male.

Actually I believe that clowns are undetermined when they are young. So the dominate clown is female, next is the male and the rest are undetermined.

Fairly close, they are considered un-sexed males, and not undetermined, since they will have to go to male before going to female.
