Pink tip birds nest problems??

I've bought this as a tiny stick frag at my LFS and it grew like crazy. Just recently it started looking like this. Not sure why its only doing well on the tips and seeming to lose everything further in. Its in front of a MP40 so the flow should not be a problem and its mid to high in the tank so it shouldn't have any issues with light as it used to be much farther down when it was much smaller and I have not changed my lights or anything for that matter. Any ideas?

What's your SG and water temp?

Towards the top left of the pic, is that flesh coming off or algae on it?

What's your N, P and feeding schedule?

Agreed that the zoas are all closed, that's a problem. Either way, the rounded tips may indicate alk problems.

Agreed it's a water quality issue.

I'd recommend a couple 20% water changes and using some activated carbon.

Also, has your flow changed? I've had a large birdsnest die from the center out when the flow was decreased.

I should have mentioned that was taken at night when everything was mostly closed up. I turned the room lights on to get a picture.

As for algae I have been dealing with some hair algae that has been going away once I started up my bio pellet reactor again. Wondering if maybe the reactor is killing it.

And for flow I haven't changed anything. Vortech are still on the same setting in the same location. You think its not getting enough flow? I can turn the pump up on that side. Its almost maxed but can go up a little higher.

Think may have found the problem. I have been testing alk with my hanna checker and as a double check I used my red sea kit and it showed dkh to be 5.6 vs the hanna saying roughly 8. I did the test again from red sea and again same result.

Hanna had a recall on their Alk reagent.

Their verification site is down, so you might want to just contact them directly for free replacement. I know all of mine were recalled but they replaced them all free of charge.
