i bought a pinpoint temperature monitor from marine depot about a month ago..i noticed the temperature was getting up tp 87-88 with my halides on and 77-78 without...this was a crazy swing so i decided to get another thermometer the pinpoint was off 10 degrees(I HAVE A GUY I KNOW THAT HAS A LASER TEMPERATURE METER, IT WAS OFF 10 DEGREES EXACTLY)...so i called marine depot they told me they wouldnt take it back but i could call there rep....well he treated me like i was 10 years old and acted like i must have just started in reef keeping....i just want everyone to know how i was treated and i have bought my last pinpoint monitor...The bottom line is if these meters are off by 10 degrees when they sell them you could loose fish ....I knoticed a few of my fish with ick, because I tried keeping the temp with the meter at 79 which was really 69....Keep in mind I have a 220 gallon reef with all of the pinpoint meters at home so I sarted a 75 gallon at work with the same meters.....just very bad customer service!!

Sorry for your problems with MD, I've had a bad experience with them about 4 yrs ago but for the most part they do an OK job. the 69 degree is Not what brought about Ich and keeping the tank at 69 didn't kill your fish, it may have ran your electric bill up considerably with the chiller running to keep it at that but thats about the only thing it did. if you have a problem with anything PinPoint, rather then calling MD and hashing it out, call Lou Dell at American Marine Inc and he'll be more then happy to help you out, he always has me and he's very courteous.

I did talk to some one at american marine...mabe he was having a bad day but they he was very rude...mabe I just took it that way??? but im the consumer!! I work with customers all day and try my best to help them out! There is no chiller on my 75 just my 220...and I havent lost any fish just had a problem with ick due to lower water temperatures....I think pinpoint is a good product I have 6 different monitors Im just voicing my opinion of a bad experience I had with them....

a 69 degree tank didn't cause you to have Ich, you introduced it to the tank via one of the inhabitants, wouldn't of made a hill of beans difference if it had been 69/79/89 degree or if it had been a PinPoint/Hanna/Coralife monitor.

so the temp probe was off by 10 degree, send it in and they'll fix it. i just sent an ORP controller back last week, mailed it off on Wednesday, it arrived at American Marine on Saturday and i got a call from Lou Sunday afternoon telling me what was wrong with it and i got it back to me this last Thursday, eight days round trip, no biggie.

I would'nt recommend using a digital thermometer as your only temp reading...its always good to have a old fashoned hagen thermometer or something

Hi Joe,

I apologize for the inconvenience in this situation. Some of the manufacturers that we deal with would prefer to work with the end users on resolving any problems encountered with their product. While most of these hand offs work out great, we realize that there are some instances where it doesn't work out.

At any rate, i would like to take back that monitor from you and give you a full refund and a $20 store credit for the inconvenience. Please contact one of our customer service associates at 714.385.0080 to arrange this. You may also email us at customercare@marinedepot.com

Thank you,

Ben R.

I bought an American Marine Pinpoint pH moniter and the thing was awful. I had to recalibarate it every month and it still did not work correctly! Pinpoints are straight crap!!! There calcium monitors did not work either. Get a Neptune Aquacontroller Jr. and you will be set. I only had to calibrate my Neptune once and that was 6 months ago!!! Great product and great customer service from Marine Depot as well!!!

sounds like operator error to me.

The only operator error on my part was actually buying the Pinpoint pH moniter.

I bought a Neptune Aquacontroller III and it works flawlessly.

thousands of satisfied customers with American Marine products and YOU say 'Pinpoints are straight crap!!!', yeah that's defiantly operator error. I've seen more problems with Neptune systems then I've ever seen with PinPoint, they are both good quality systems, they both occasionally have faulty units, it happens with EVERYTHING, your statement is inaccurate simple as that.

Thousands of satisfied customers huh??? I tried to get product support from American Marine and the rep from pinpoint was so damn rude and condisending, I dumped the thing in the trash! So unless there customer service at American Marine has improved dramatically which I doubt, I will stick with my opinions.

Yes, thousands, if not more, oh BTW, there is no product support team, Lou Dell is a one man show over there and he's always as polite as can be but hey I'm sure anyone who gets a call saying 'Hey your product is crap' would get a cold shoulder from any company.

I bought my first pH monitor at least 12 years ago, Pinpoint. I still have the original display/main unit and change out the probe about once every 2 years. They do require calibration on a regular basis but I really use the reading to show trends in the system and not the absolute value. If I want it accurate I calibrate and it usually holds for a few months. With two monitors now in use and all supplies purchased from MD I'm as happy as my clams.
