So this is the problem got a ph moniter calibrated it useing
4.0 and 7.0 all good.
Placed it in the tank and reads 7.98 at temp 78
used two different drop test kits both show ph 8.4 same temp.
the two test kits are silfert and red sea both are less than a month old. I'm at a loss of witch one is right. My gut tell me to trust the pinpoint.

You should be using 10.0 and 7.0 for calibration. IIRC, pH becomes "non-linear" if you are testing/monitoring beyond the calibration parameters. Something that's been drilled into my head years ago in the various instrumentation courses I've taken in uni. I'd go into my storage area to dig up texts and notes but I'm afaid I'll never get out alive...LMAO.
