pipefish and lps corals

I've read twice in different threads that there are some lps corals that are a hazard to pipe fish, but it never was made clear, which lps, and what pipefish?
Different pipefish hang in different areas.

I'm setting up my 90 right now. I'm definitely going to have some LPS, but would love to have a dragonface as well. I've read that several people have done it successfully, but I've never actually heard of anyone having a problem.

It really goes for all pipefish and all LPSs. It is actually true that pipefish do "hang" in different areas, but all tend to spend some time near the surface of objects, including flagtail pipefish, who are ostensibly more open water swimmers, but tend to hide and sleep near rocks.

The problem is threefold - you have a coral type that typically has some sort of stinging tentacles, either sweepers, or feeding, or both. Then you have an animal with sensitive skin rather than scales. Finally, you have a fish that is prone to bacterial infections, which can start from a simple brush with stinger tentacles.

Personally, I like my pipefish more than my corals, so I don't keep LPS, but everyone's opinion is going to be different. There is probably less risk with say, a flagtail such as a blue stripe and banded, than there is a dragonface. And if you must have LPS, acans and favites are probably safer than others, though I'd still watch and use caution.
