hey reefers-

I recentgly bought a pistol shrimp and now he will not quit digging, is there and way to stop him???

How can I catch him I want my tank to stop caving in from all the digging

I was thinking of burrying the LR to the bottom of the tank but then I will not see as much as I would like

HELP!!!!!!!!

well that was your first mistake to lay the rock onto the sand! big no no! using base rock and laying it down on the glass then add your sand then lay your lr ontop of the base rock will keep everything stable no matter who/what digs under it:-)

no way to stop him from digging that what they do

yeah the burrow for the Randall Goby that I have but the shrimp is a pain, I want him out. Every day I have to "clean up" after the shrimp, making piles of sand everywhere and sometimes covering the corals and mushrooms with sand

You could try putting a piece of PVC pipe for it to make a home out of. Some people do that for pistol or mantis shrimp. If it decides to reside in it, you wouldn't have to worry about it digging, unless it decided to move elsewhere.

It might still occasionally dig in other places, but for the most part that should help.

good ideas

I did the base rock deal in a corner to "test" him and he is passing for now, one hole is fine, but he wants about 25 soooo.....

Mine was small and thus didn't bother anything by digging, so I thought it was cute watching it dig. When I first added it, it decided to dig a tunnel against the glass, so I could see it, like an ant farm. It was funny, it looked like a little bulldozer. Some sand would fall back in, so it'd go back in and scoop it out.

Hey jerehmy,

A fellow San Diegan!

For the most part thats what Pistol shrimps do. Don't bother trying to "clean up" after him. Uncover any corals of course.I got a Pistol/Goby combo about 3 months ago. The Pistol has completley re-arranged my sand bed to his liking. And it's constantely changing. Also causing a huge Bubble algae outbreak! My rock is/was on top of the sandbed.
Placing the rock on the bottom will help against avalanches.

Good Luck
