for months now we have been hearing clicks in our 37 gallon reef tank. sometimes more often than others. i have like 6 hermits and a bunch of snails and none that i know of have been killed. one is a really small hermit too and he's fine, comes out every night.

my question is can a pistol shrimp make several clicks in a row? or do they only make one click at a time?

"clicks" can be very misleading. I swore I heard a pistol shrimp going into rapid fire one night and when I went to look, it turned out to be a snail that was being irritated by having another smaller snail on its shell and it was violently twisting about trying to shake it off, in doing so, it was hitting the tank's glass and... clicking like mad...lol In short, really do need to see an actual animal to hazard an ID

thank you for the repiles. chuck i totally agree and leslie thanks for the clarification on that. i think my boyfriend kinda secretly wants it to be a mantis shrimp making all the clicks. we currently have a peacock mantis tank now so yeah he likes mantis' and would love to to have a reason to set up a another tank lol. it's been close to a year and we've never seen anything that could be making the nose so really i'm not worried at this point. i'm thinking really shy pistol shrimp maybe.
