Pittsburgh fish stores

Petland in Cranberry is now Burtons Total Pet. They have some saltwater but, nothing worth your time.

Sadly it seems that pretty much all of the chain stores carry saltwater to some degree, but like the large lionfish, they usually put them in inhospitable conditions and the fish are usually (at least in my experience) covered with ich. They might be cheaper, but I refuse to support stores that don't care about the health of their livestock or the quality of the product they are selling, so I never visit Burtons/Petland/Petco.

The Petland in Robinson still sells saltwater. They get a few gems in every now and then believe it or not. Last time I was up there, they had a few harlequin shrimp

Has anyone gone to Atlantis? I will be moving soon and they will be very close to me. I normally go to Elmers so i`m curious if they will be a let down compaired to Elmers?

They are still there, it is a pretty small store.

He occasionally gets in some really nice fish and sometimes decent corals. I haven't stopped in the store in a few months but have driven by and they are still open.

You will get varying opinions on Atlantis. Some people do not like that there are no prices on most things. I have had some good experiences with fish I bought there that I had not seen elsewhere.

Gary is the store owner, make sure he is there before you go as his mom often minds the store when he is out on a service call. I don't think she knows the prices on things.

There is a Pet Supply Plus in Irwin but they don't have much stock and rarely get any in.
Their tanks are absolutely disgusting with algae and there is always a nasty film on top of the water.
It is really sad because when I first went there they had huge potential but they just don't seem to care.

I agree completely with you, we used to go there at least 2x a month about a year ago and the tanks were great, lots of stock at least 20% cheaper then elmers on fish and corals. I stopped going after new management took over and the guy who was running the fish room left. My wife and I stopped in a few weeks ago and we were absolutely disgusted with the store.. The main display tank had a huge tesselated eel in it at least 4 feet long that could barely swim because of the hair algea, it looked like Troy Polamalu was swimming in there.
We bought a small coral from there and the water smelled horrible the SG was over 1.30. When we complained about the conditions we were told " we havent lost any sales so it cant be that bad" needless to say we will not be back
