Placement of T Maxima

finneganswake

In Memoriam
I'm thinking about purchasing a T Maxima from my LFS. It's a small one, about 2". There's perfect spot on my live rock that I want to place it, but it's not very wide and I'm worried about the clam falling over and disappearing into the aquascape. Does anyone have any suggestions, as this is my first clam and I'm used to just superglueing or epoxying corals to where I want them.

place in on a piece of flat rock and in a tupper ware so that it can attach to the small rock then epoxy the small rock where you want to put it.

i agree with Julio only half way. place the clam on the sand bed with a small rock undr it and when it grabs on then u can move it where u like, but u want to be able to remove it from the tank to inspect it some times,so i wouldnt glue it to anything

Hmm, I see the wisdom in both of your responses. I decided to use mbbuna's method as far as placing it (I bought it last night) on the sand bed over a rock to attach, but I want to epoxy it eventually as Julio said.

mbbuna, the thing that I'm worried about is the rock with the clam falling over and disappearing into the aquascape if it's not epoxied. This has already happened with some zoos that I was propigating, and as hard as I worked to get the aquascape I wanted, I'm not tearing it up to look for anything. I was under the impression that unless you're buying a wild clam (mine's aquacultured) and are looking for parasites when it arrives that the only thing that you really need to worry about is something (like a bristleworm) coming up through the sandbed and attacking it; since this won't be on the sandbed after I move it, what other things would I need to check?

just because it aqucultured dosent mean it wont have parasites.
the main parasite u need to worry about is Pyramidelline snails.
Pyrams are more common in closed systems because of a lack of predator's

I've checked and I don't see any evidence of them (I used Julian Sprung's book to see what they and their eggs looked like). If I'm not putting any other clams in the system, is there any danger of them coming as hitchhikers on other corals, or do they primarily stick to clams?

most of the time they come with the clam but they can be hosted by turbos, astreas, and most of ur common alge grasers.if u most glue the rock to something just wait 2 months and check every 4days and if u dont find any then ur ok
