Placing Coral

Hey guys and gals,

I have a 28 gallon tank. How do you place your corals? Do you just sit them on top of the live rock? Even on the slopes?

Depends on what type of coral it is, and what its light and flow requirements are. Higher light requirement needs to go up top closer to the light, lower light needs to be down closer to the sand. There are lots of different ways to mount corals (I typically use superglue) but it really depends on what it comes attached to. And yes, you can place it just about anywhere as long as the light and flow requirements are met. Also keep in mine space for growth, expansion, etc around other corals. Take a look around at the tanks in this forum and you will get some ideas.

Ange062 is the coral wizard and everything his stated is a good rule of thumb. I'd like to add something as well, if you don't see polyp extension or the coral just doesn't look happy after a couple weeks in it's spot trying moving based on the looks of the coral. For example with SPS, if it's white (bleached) it's receiving too much light, if it's brown it's not getting enough. Also try and keep any coral out of direct flow from the powerhead or return pumps. HTH I'm sure we can give you better information if you let us know what type of corals you plan on stocking...
