Planing my light

I have narrowed it down to the lumenarc mini hqi 250w for my 60 hex that will be mounted in a canopy. My question is what ballast and bulb combo. Should i go with a coralvue 250 w dimmable ballast and a reeflux 12 k, or should i go with the bluewave 3/ PFO ballast with a phoenix 14k or any other combo in between let me know what you think. This will be my only lighting source

I loved the color of the 12k reeflux, though growth was not great and it seemed like the bulb crapped out after only about 7 - 8 months. May depend on what corals too. I've been adding small SPS frags and growth is a premium for me. I can say that I liked the look of my tank a lot better with the 12k than my current Ushio 10k's though.

I have ARO electronic ballasts, but my light was SE, are you talking DE for the 12k?

Sorry, just saw you said HQI in your first post, missed that on my first time through.

lighting is in the eye of the beholder

if you like a lot of blue than 20k
a little blue 14k
white 10k
yellow 6500k

but things are not always that way depending on the bulb ballast combo

(example the 10k xm looks yellow on some ballasts)

I think letmegrow has a luminarc mini and ballast/bulb's for sale at a good price.

if that is a good price than why arent they sold

I have a retro that would be perfect for your tank, esp if you arent using any actinics. It has a 14k bulb that is imo a perfect hue for a tank...

250 watts. I had it on my 35g hex before and it was great.
