Hi all,

I am in the planning stage or doing inwall tank for my new house. I am wondering what would be the best way to set up the stand.

This is how i am planning to frame the new section where the aquarium will go, it will be about 8'6" x 4 feet.

The aquarium i am planning to get is 72x24x24 or x29

Can't go wrong with a bunch of 2x4's for a stand that big, especially if it's utilitarian aesthetic is hidden in what looks to be a support/fish room. I stumbled across this

in estimating tank stats, including weight which is great for planning out a stand's carrying capacity.
Good luck!

Thanks, Pretty cool link. I actually won't be placing anything underneath the tank beside 2 pumps and two wavemotion4 (I think that's what they called if i remember correctly, all of the filters will be placed in the adjacent storage room.

I came up with this stand design, it's pretty much made out of 2x4s, probably went a little overboard with that:

The other design issues I have is what to do with the drywall edge, I was thinking to place a 1/2" ply wood on the covering the drywall too, but would it stay in place together? would i have to tape it to the dry wall?

The other question, is what type of drywall should i use for the interior of the room, would dry wall be good? or should i think about using something else.

Thanks!

Stand looks good, and it doesnt hurt to over engineer, just under engineer!

As for the edge, why not just use the corner strips for drywall? That would hide the raw edge cleanly, but you'd have to tape that.

Some updates... we got the house loan approved, so I am moving forward with the design. So far, it will include creating a small room to house the tank only (4'6" X 8'6").

That room will be adjacent to the storage/utility room, where all the filtration / sump / frag tank will be housed.

at this stage, i am set on the tank length, I would like it to be 6' long, and at least 24" deep. so looking at 180 or 210.

I have drafted some ideas for closed loops. I think about running two closed loops, both running OM4 with reeFlo dart hybrid. is that too much?

I try to maximize the space around the tank, so it would be easier to maintain, so i would rather have the closed loop returns/intakes in below or above the tank. Would 1.5" pvc intake for each would be enough? I plan on cutting 1/8 groves in a stand pipe that would go all the way to the water surface in the middle of the tank.
