Yes, + check valve, + tee splitter, + directional u tube, + manifold. This adds much more head pressure.

Its going to stop the pellet reactor from having backflow in the event of a power outage.
They fail, you have to clean them. Your sump should be big enough to handle any drainage in case of power failure. Thats how a system should be designed....not to rely on a piece of plastic that breaks often.

Any updates I'm doing the same build as we speak!!! But I'm adding in a DIY sulfur denitrator a 790gph panworld pump and a SCA-302 cone style skimmer I believe its rated for 150g. First time using this Skimmer so crossing my fingers but for the price and good reviews I've seen I wanted to try it out. My lighting is a DIY 36 Cree led on a 20"x6" heatsink controlled by my reefkeeper lite L3 with the ALC module...anything you've had issues with I should look out for using the 40b with 20L sump
