Planning to order Florida Aquacultured Rock--any interest?

Hi everyone,

I've been researching different companies that will ship live rock to one's door.

I'm thinking of ordering some Florida aquacultured live rock--the stuff jam packed with Atlantic and Caribbean life. A store back in Buffalo, NY used to carry the stuff and it was really, really cool!

Anyways, I'm thinking of placing an order. Would anyone else be interested in tagging along? Also, if I were to purchase say 60 pounds and only need 30 for my tank, does anyone need/would anyone like extra rock??

looking at liverockranch dot com and floridaliverock dot com.

Please let me know,

Thank you!

Steve

im jk... the thing is i would do it but im afraid i will get some type of pest or what not on my new tank

Steve--have you tried Marco rocks? Some of the best rock that I have seen that is pest free. It's all dry/base rock. Plus they ship to your door for free. I would get in on the deal. Heard Florida live rock was good.

No joke--its very possible that there could be aptasia or something similiar, pest crabs or mantis shrimp... you never know. I have an empty tank so I can take care of any pests if I need to... as for the marco rocks, I would love to buy some custom or really cool shaped man made rocks, but how do I know marco won't just be small boulders? Steve

They have shelf type rock that is pretty sick. Plus, i ordered the Marco rock for my nano and was pretty good size. Jay (jmait) used their rock and was real nice sizes and pourous.

Marco rock is not manmade. It is a quarried rock from an extinct reef buried when the Florida land mass was formed. So you are really getting "œdead" rock instead of "live" rock. It took about 2 months for mine to "œcome alive" after mixing with a few pieces of "œlive" rock from my old tank. The advantage is it ships dry, so less weight and you can avoid those bad hitchhikers. I'm very pleased with mine.

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to place an order from one of those sites within the next few days.

Please contact me if you would like to be part of the order!

Also, again please let me know if you'd like a few random rocks, in case I order extra and pick out what will work best for my tank (it's on 20x20x20).

Please PM me,

Thanks,

Steve

Hey Steve I don't think I will be ready that quickly sorry. If you order too much I may have a bit of room in my sump and can take some off of your hands.

I ordered Marco Rock about a month ago and it was great. A lot of rock for the weight and they packed it with a little extra in case some broke. Mine is already starting to turn from white to a light brown.

Hello S Helinski ; Take a look at OceanPro Aquatics.com before you place your order and save mucho denaro!!!! Happy Reefing!!! You can also get some manmade base rock to save some money!:celeb1:

Hi everyone,

I placed an order with liverockranch dot com. So far the customer service was excellent, as I spoke to the owner/operator on the phone. I will let you all know about the quality of the rock and shipping when it arrives.

I ordered 50 pounds of rock, and I'm not sure if I will have a great deal of extra or need more, but stay tuned: I might have super fresh (uncured) rock for sale (at a price to break even--I won't make a profit).

I did check out that website, ReeferBill. They advertised a huge selection of rock, but only had very few types in stock, ready to ship...

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Everyone,

My rock came in a few days ago. Basically I'm not impressed. I did get rock far cheaper than if purchased at a LFS. But the pictures advertising the "type and quality" (premium) of the rock I purchased, were easily 20x better than the rock I actually received. The pieces were mostly plain or boulder-like. Luckily I did receive a good amount of plant life--on some of the rocks, which is what I wanted the most...

I would still recommend the company based on the service and price--but so far the best place to find an awesome rock would still be at the LFS--looking for that one piece out of 20 that really catches your eye...

Thanks for the update Helinski. When I ordered Rock I purchased WAY more than I actually needed to get all of the pieces in shapes that I wanted. even then I took a hammer to the "boulder" like pieces to get some different shapes.

Thanks to live rock ranch for the post also. I watched the video you provided and the rock looks pretty nice. Helinski said he talked with you on the phone and your post here shows you are easily reachable.

As an update, the rock I received was still boulder-like. However, the majority of the rocks began to explode with plant life, which is exactly what I wanted!

Unfortunately I think the pictures advertised on the website were of the best rocks out of 1000 or so!

Roger, your service and prices are still very good!

Steve
