Plant-like thing... What is it?!?

Anyone have an idea what this is? This is the second time this thing has grown in my tank. The first one died after I uprooted it while trying to see what it was. It has a root ball under the sand, so I know it is of plant origin.

Both times this appeared, it popped up over night. It is very slow growing after that. The pic you see is after being in the tank for almost two weeks. It is almost double the size it was when it first showed up.

I'm guessing it's a new Shaving Brush plant, but it is real hard to tell.

Mark,

I can't tell from the pic but there are lots of stalked Ulvophycean green algae that start out looking like that including Penicillus, Rhipocephalus, Udotea, and others. If it starts taking shape please post more pics. I'm sure whatever it is it likes high calcium, good alkalinity, and low to nearly no phosphates.

HTH,
Kevin
