What are these plants growing on this pock? Thae small green ones are Halimeda but what are the flowering ones with a thick stem? See my photo gallery.
Are you talking about the anemone's? Those look like aiptasia a.k.a. glass anemone's. Most people don't want those since they sting the hell out of their surrounding neighbors and multiply like rabbits. Get rid of them.
no. They are green plants growing out of the rock. The photo is a very big close-up. Plants with stems spreading out with leaves. Light green in color. The dark green is Halimeda and the dark red is Coralline Algae.
I agree with oceanus, you are talking about Aiptasia anemone's. They are not plants. Get rid of them by injecting them with Joes Juice, Kalkwasser paste or some people use lemon juice. Peppermint shrimp have been known to eat smaller ones.

I looked again and I see the Halimeda and the coralline algae and then I see the aiptasia also. Maybe I'm an idiot and cannot see what you are talking about? Is it on the lower part of the rock? The pic is a little grainy, but it looks as if you have some darker red algae growing on the rock also. Is that just coralline algea or what you are talking about?
They only occur on this one small rock in the tank . I could easily take out that rock and trash it or sterilize it and not even miss it in this tank if this is what it is. The dark red objects are Coralline algae which are on all the rock in the tank, including a lot of pink, purple and green Coralline algae. The things I am talking about are the four objects with leaves growing out of the rock that are about one and one-half inches in diameter in real life. I had to reduce the picture quality in image ready because they only allow 50k.
If we are indeed talking about the brownish colored anemone's which looks like there are 4 or 5 on that rock, they are the aiptasia. They look like plants. They are relatively small, some species grow around 5 inches tall, but most will be around the 2 inch mark. They have a long column and their oral disk has long wispy tentacles. They will grow out of nowhere and spread like wildfire all the while stinging your corals along the way.
Sfeld: The only thing I see in your pictures are the Aiptasia anenomies. (OK, I see the coralline, Halimedia and the mushrooms too)
Yes, the anemonies look like plants, but they aren't. They will spread and kill your corals. Get rid of them (no need to "sterlize" the rock) using one of the methods I mentioned.
If you disagree with Oceanus or myself, I don't know what else we can tell you.
Thank you very much for your diagnosis. I went into Volume 1 of Sprung and Deelbeck's "The Reef Aquarium" page 289, and looked up Aiptasia anemones and see that you are absolutely right. I will take that rock out and put it in a bucket of sea water and inject it with kalkwasser or lemon juice. What is Joes Juice? When they die I will seal that hole in the rock with aquarium putty. They have not spread anywhere else yet (hopefully) so this shoud be easy.
They were aiptasia for sure. I got some Joe's Juice and injected 2 of them and they slid back into their hole in a flash. I'll get the other 3 tomorrow. Joe's Juice seems to be kalkwasser in a thin solution that can pass thru the plastic needle they provide. Thanks again Oceanus and TJcop for your help!!
