Plastic Enclosure Boxes ...

Has anyone mounted their electrical control equipment in a plastic enclosure box? I was contemplating about mounting my Neptune Systems DC-8 and Expansion Sockets in a NEMA4 electrical enclosure, then mounting it inside my tank stand. I would want to waterproof the punch-outs to make sure that no moisture could enter the enclosure. Then I would route my equipment cords (with drip loops) out to my GFCI/Backup system on a table away from my stand.

If I go in this direction, where would I be able to purchase the enclosure? I'm not sure if I would be able to get the enclosure at Lowes or HD, or if a local electrical supply house would sell me one (most will not sell to the general public; you pretty much have to be a contractor or have a business account set up with them).

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Take Care,

Hey, woodymac64... sounds like a pretty good idea.:) That way your setup won't look like a science experiment gone awry!:)
Judging from the whopping amount of responses you got, I'm suprised that everybody isn't doing this! What's up with that??!!

All sarcasm aside, it would have been nice to get some kinda response. Could be worse, I've seen posts go on for days with nary a comment (I can feel for those people!). Guess I stick to my guns and go ahead with my plan (up to this point, I've pretty much done this with my setup anyway). I think I'll just sit on the proverbial sidelines until my setup is complete and take the information I can extract from RC and other form posts with a grain of salt. Experience is the best teacher and making mistakes is a part of that process (hopefully, sanity will prevail!).

So until then... Take Care.

sounds like a good idea. i too am recieving a dc8 next week and am contimplating how to water proof it. please keep me updated, i am very interested. thanks

I'm not sure what size enclosure that is that you need but you can get anything online, anything. I dont know if this helps but I dont use power strips. The cheap ones are pure garbage and the good ones are ridiculously expensive. I build all my own outlet centers with commercial quality duplex (or single) outlets, plastic electrical boxes, 14 guage romex, smurf pipe and waterproof covers. Still need the occassional extension cord (I use a heavy duty usually) but no crappy power strips. Anyway, if it helps, I use the plastic dual or single gang boxes. Only way to go around salt water aquariums, IMO anyway.
