plastic trash can for temporary fuge

Until I get around figuring out how to make an acryllic fuge, is there any reason I can't use a new little plastic trash can as a fuge? I'd set it up with a 2" pipe going from it (using bulkhead) into the sump for a low flow fuge. For now it would just have 3" sand and cheato using a small cheap clip on light.

That should work fine - many people do things like that permanently. Just make sure it's food-grade plastic, as some trash products are treated with chemicals that could be harmful to your tank.

Not a problem at all, just make sure it doesn't tip easily. You may find yourself just keeping it as the fuge. Places sell a lot of heavy duty plastic containers that can double as a fuge very easily. Good luck!

I use a rubbermaid tub for my sump. Works great and was a lot cheeper. You might want to look at something square unless you already have the trash can.

There was a thread a few days ago talking about putting a bulkhead on a trash can for ro/di water and people said they have no problem doing this. IMO something longer and shorter would be easier to get under the tank on top of the sump.
