Plate coral help

I purchased two Plate corals this past weekend. They are some of my first corals, and I know they should sit directly in the sand. The vendor sold them to me attached to a rock. I thought I would be able to easily remove them but they are very apparently glued to the rock and I have been having a hard time trying to remove the rock. Does anyone have any good advice on how to remove them from the rock or how well they will do attached to the rock.

I only attached one photo of one of the plates. This is the tougher one to remove.

I know it is definitely preferred to put them in the sand, because they can move. However, I have seen a couple display tanks with plate corals all over the rocks and they were all very happy.
