If anyone can offer help it would be appreciated. I puchased a long tent plate on Sunday from my LFS looked great in store and had been there for approx 1 month. Took my time with acclimation, and as expected was closed on the first day. It is now Tuesday and as each day has gone by the coral has not opened at all and is now looking as if it is shinking away. All water levels seem O.K. Sg is at 1.024 Nitrates are nonexistant as well as nitrites KH is a little high approx 600ppm but I don't think that is it. I also have two open brain Corals that are doing great and have been for a while. If anyone has any thoughts please let me Know

Thanks in Advance :(

Is it possible for a plate to go through Light shock ? or is there such a thing LFS has power compacts my tank at home has 10K halides. Plate looks as if it shed its old skin and is now regenerating a new one is this a possibility? As far a current it is close to the bottom of the tank and is getting what iwould consider medium current .
Thaks again

Yes. You have to acclimate them to halide if that have came from under PC.
I would say it is most definately in shock.
Move it to a shadey spot on the sand bed and slowly move it out into full light over two weeks.

Make sure it is on the substrate and not on the rocks. Have you tried to feed it? Usually if I feed mine it will perk up almost immediately. I agree that it may also be in shock from the lighting situation. Acclimate it slowly over the course of a few days to bring it to your lighting standards.

Thanks for all the Input on the plate but I'm sorry to say that it did not make it. A complete loss --really sucks !!! thank for all you help though.

I have 2 plate corals that are doing just great. I have had them for 2 weeks now. Just to give you a run down on my parameters.
Ph runs 8.26 at the height of the light cycle and goes down to 8.12 or so in the am. Calcium is at 420, alkalinity runs 2.97 to 3.20 meq/l, magnesium runs 1330 or so. I have 150 watt mh with 96 watt actinics. I keep them on the sand. One of mine actually moved from the shade of a rock above it to a more lighted area. I finally picked it up and moved it to a brighter area. It likes that space. I have fed them both pretty large chunks of raw shrimp and this guys opened up and sucked it in. It was awesome looking.

I'm sorry for your loss. I tried a gonipora and had no luck. I didn't research ahead of time as I should have. I was really bummed out. My tank is pretty new and I am taking my time. I only have some mushrooms, frogspawn, zenia hydnophora and the plate corals so far. You can see pictures of them here.

I hope the next time around you have better luck. I would be more than happy to answer any questions for you if you have any.

Pat

Do not discard a dead plate coral. They reproduce when dead by growing little ones on the old disc.

Thanks to everyone for all comments they are all appreciated. I'll try another plate in the near future and get it started in the shade B-4 moving into direct light . Look forward to talking with everyone again hopefully with better results.

Thanks again,

Tazz
