platinum clowns

I just got 2 platinum clowns straight from ORA yesterday and let them aclimate to tank temp then I slowly added tank water to their container same way I always do(a total of almost 2 hours of aclimation)

Ever since I added them to the tank the smaller one was just swimming right by the top of the water in the back corner of my tank and now this morning their both still swimming near the top.

Is this a bad sign?

What do you guys think?

i have 2 ORA black and white clowns. They always go up and spend the entire night at the water surface. ALL night and every night. They come down when the lights go on.

I have two captive bread black/white clowns, they've been swimming around the top of the tank for 2 months now. Hopefully when they get bigger they'll realize there's rock to swim around..

Mine did this for 2 years until they finally figured out there was an anemone in the tank :)

Yep...my whyoming whites are the same. Been in the sump for a month and finally put them in the main tank and they just stay in the corner of my overflow at night. When lights go on then they swim all crazy around the surface of tank like they swimming a marathon. I calaculated it the other night and it must be like one lap per 45 sec. Sometimes I think that they are stupid or something because it gets so annoying. So much $$$ on stupied fishes...lol

I like clowns but I will be the first to admit that captive bred clowns do seem a little "stupid".

I think Lot of this come from the way they are raised. Most are brought up in tanks devoid of any structure, the little fish just bob around aimlessly.
Once in a new habitat full of "things" I feel like they panic and just stay at the top with a full view of everything.

Literally every captive raised clown I have owned has shown the same behavior.

Yeah, all of the inbreeding does damage to any animal. That's why cows, designer "fashion accessory" dogs, etc. are pretty low on the smarts charts. But ; like many fish, its still cheaper to buy wild fish at 3rd world prices than to breed them at American prices. Thus, the designer fish was developed.

The first three months we had our clown, he wouldn't move from the top right corner. When we added a few more fish, he seemed to figure out that more tank existed. He still ended up claiming the right third of the tank as his and spends most of the day over there to keep out the fish he doesn't like. Not sure if he's wild caught or captive bred.

I bought a pair about 8 weeks ago. For about 6 weeks, They would only hang in the upper corner of my 210. Then I lost one about two weeks ago and picked up a wc ocellaris to replace it. The ocellaris found my anemone in two days and three days later so did the platinum.

The clown has never shown any interest in jumping. The wrasse on the other hand... I think I'd keep a lid on any tank just for the peace of mind, since you never really know.
