Platygyra Questions

Hi, Everyone.

So I have strictly SPS in my tank and just got two really nice, relativity large chunks of Platygyra. I wanted something to go nicely in the sand with my clams. I've read a lot about them but there is one question I'm not sure of.

In the ocean you see these colonies grow in a ball-ish shape. How do I get my coral to grow in that shape? Is it as simple as mounting it on a ball shaped piece of live rock?

Example: https://53744bf91d44b81762e0-fbbc95...sentation.Large/Platygyra-daedalea-colony.jpg

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!
Joey

I've got a frag that's been on my sand bed for at least a year now and while it doesn't look like a ball yet it does seem to be taking that shape.

Oh nice, got a pic? That's cool that it just balled up automatically. That would be the ideal situation for me if that's the case and I don't need to find a round ish rock

Here you go.. These aren't the best pictures, but the coral used to be much flatter and had some gnarly edges on it. Growth has been slow this last year, but it's definitely starting to fill out. One of my favorites. :)

BTW this thing has a voracious apatite. I don't spot feed it, but anything it can catch it eats.

Nice. That's the same one I got. I put it in the sand. Let's see how it does. Very hairy at night.
