I recently bought some Lord Frags. They are kind of on a perch. Can someone explain the building of a "bridge" to help them spread down to the base? Please tell me exactly what type of puddy etc. to use. I do not want to screw this up! Thanks in advance.
You can buy at Home depot or any good plumbling dept a 2 part, water potable (water potable is the ABSOLUTE KEY here) epoxy... it usually looks like a 4-5" hot dog with a filling ie: 2 part... its consitency it that of rolling clay... knead it together to form a snakelike/ wormlike roll and press this around the edges of the frag where it meets the mounting rock that the frag is affixed to.. press it in until it forms a "ramp" this is all to easily allow its growth to traverse from the frag to the ramp and then down onto the actual rock that some happy day will represent the pretty colony that you are dreaming of...
Be careful of the heat that the curing epoxy can generate
I am however not sure of the brand as each time I purchase it they seem to have changed distributors and brands... I need to get some more tommorow... I just make sure to keep the epoxy 1/16" or so away from the tissue and then place it back into the water before it has a chance to begin curing.
As a credit note here... I learned all of this from Jen and Charles... they also have a great blog on all of this at frags.org
I think the epoxy is called Aquastik out here. It's in the plumbing section. It will typically be white on the outside with a black core and come in an 8-10" tube that's a nickle's width.
BTW- with this stuff be sure to wear gloves unless you like stained black fingers =)
Its called Aquamend at the Home Depot Stores and is in the section with all the epoxies and etc. Just used some not 10 min ago for a Monti Cap that fragged itself
