PLEASE have a look at my maxima is it ok???

I have noticed these little spots are growing
its only about 2.5" so is it just growing and developing its coloration or should I be worried

by the way please dont coment on the nasty sand im working on it

what spots? ( the green spots, or are they white? )

how old are your lights?

the reason i ask is that 20K bulbs start out with a very low PAR value and drop rapidly.

they are exactly as they look in the pic greensh/goldsh/tansh if that a colour

how long have you had the clam?

i sounds like bleaching but i can't realy see it.

clams usualy bleach from to much light to fast or a lack of light. if this isn't an acclimation problem then you need to slowly move the clam up in the tank.

i got him at incredible aquarium a LFS here in london they get small ones in about every3month or so but if you ask bill(the owner) he can put in a order for you i think i payed 39 for it they also have some larger ones to

if you look at the Where's the Reef banner there is a clam with a tan ring around the mantle do you think its just developing something like that?

black maxima's for $39, can't talk now going camping in london.

even if it is a natural pattern forming the clam will do better ( or at least not worse ) up on the rocks closer to the light. the green ish color scares me a little bit, is it algae? i've never seen algae grow on living tissue?? is there any white around the spots? the brownish color is probably the zooxanthellae, it is actually brown in color.

my clam isnt black its more of a extremly dark blue

its not algae i know that for sure even though there is lots on my sand and there is no white around the spots

you may be right, it may be part of a pattern forming on the mantle ( i can't say). i would keep a really close eye on those spots and see how they grow. maybe post a few more pics here over time and we can see if there is anything to be concerned about.

looking at the clam as it is in the photo IMO the long brown streak in the center of the clam but on the top side is caused by the way the clam is positioned in the tank and where the lights are above the tank. that part of the mantle is not getting direct light. the larger greenish brown spots further out in the mantle on both sides is a natural color pattern of the clam
