So my lawnmower blenny died about a week ago...it started off with his tail being paralyzed but he coudl still eat fine...then he started getting worse, showing other signs such as discoloration and trouble reaching food. In the end, he was very interested in food but could no longer reach it. He randomly spazzed out all over the aquarium and is head was constantly stock at about a 40 degree angle. What could this have been? I worry that my tomato clown is getting this also. He is very discolored and lethargic and his tail is frayed. It also looks like he wants food and is either to week to get it or can't open is mouth wide enough to ingest it. Can a type of worm or protozoan to this to a fish? It was super heartbreaking to see the blenny pass and I really want to save the clown. PLEASE HELP

I test for the basics...nintrite (0), nitrate (0), Ph (8.4), and ammonia (0) every other day. I have 75-100 lbs. of live rock maybe even more. The aquarium has been up and running for a little over a year. I supplement with calmax part A and B everyday. I also add reef solution(reef and fish maintenance additive) once every 3 days or so. I keep the temp b/w 78 and 79.

My tank is a 90 gallon bowfront tank with 2 hydor koralia's, tom aquatiocs pro series wet/dry filter with built in skimmer(really sucks), current satellite 4x65 watt pc fixture, and via aqua titanium tube heater.

Livestock includes: 1 medium foxface, 5 green chromis, 1 firefish, 2 cleaner shrimp, tomato clown, bristle star, 5-6 hermits, 7 large turbo snails

1 small head of frogspawn, nice colonies of various zooas, xenia, green star polyps, and a couple of ricordea.

I feed the fish Tetra Marine salt water flakes, San Fransisco Bay frozen brine shrimp, and formula 1 w/ gell binder. i soak all the foods in GVH fish food soak. I also supplement the corals with Liquid Life bio plankton.

I use Coralife salt......salinity 1.025

You can try a different nitrite test (salifert)... You get nitrite reading, you can be sure you have ammonia. Could be ammonia poisoning or pH burn.

pH is too high. There are dissolved organics in your tank. Check again.

Unless your supplements are pushing pH up. I do not dose my tank, so I am not familiar with the products you are using.

I do not have a sump, just a tom aquatics pro series wet/dry filter with a non-functional protein skimmer. I'm picking a used aqua c remora pro tonight for 25 bucks. Will that up his chances of survival? I don't see any kind of markings on the outside of the fish...aren't fresh water dips for parasites/protozoans? Thanks a lot for the help so far. I really appreciate it. I've been going at this problem now for 4 days:sad2:

Uppdate!!!

Uppdate!!!

I put the clown in quarantine and am treating him with nitrofuracin green powder...I'm thinking it could be a fungal/bacterial infection since is tail and fins are wasting away. Let me know if there are any suggestions thanks!
