Please help cant deside nikon D60 canon 30D

Take a peek at the DSLR "sticky" above. Honestly, it really doesnt matter. Both are good cameras.

no I don't know anyone in the hobby if they are equal in quality ill go Nikon as I have heard they have great color and optics over canon

They're a horse apiece - I personally prefer Canon, but have friends and family that shoot Canon, so I can borrow their gear if I want to.

As far as color goes - there might be a difference in straight out of camera JPG files @ factory settings, but you can edit the default JPG settings (at least with my 50d, I don't have a 30d to check) if you go with the canon and want more saturation or sharpness

Either way, don't skimp on your glass.

Believe what you want but, I shoot Nikon, and I really don't see that much of a difference. You'll also pay a bit more for Nikon lenses, so I don't think that's where your thinking needs to be. You really need to find a place to let you put the cameras in your hands. The ergonomics are quite different and if you can't get used to the one you buy, you won't use it.

We have a 30D, I'm pretty sure they don't make them anymore.
We've found that good Nikon glass is cheaper than good Canon glass (Misled is the first person I've ever seen say the opposite! LOL).
Kayl is correct, do NOT buy cheap lenses, they're cheap for a reason and it really shows in the pics you get (we have cheap lenses *sigh*). Especially important if you're going to be taking tank pics, which usually have low light & fast movement & come out blurry with cheap lenses.
The Canon is my boyfriend's, I like Nikon better because it fits in my small hands better & is more comfortable for me to shoot with (we have lots of photog friends, so I've gotten to try out a lot of cameras!).

Go to the store and hold/try out the 2 different ones & price lenses on the internet for each, then make a decision.

well as far as going to store and trying different models that wont work as there isn't any close don't really think it would make much difference as I have real large hands like xxx large in gloves so nether one will be a good fit LOL just looking for the better body does the 30D have depth of field preview at the shutter button I have read in some reviews that some body's do don't think D60 does

Its not about the camera!! Its about the lens! If your talking quality of the photo. If you think about it, all a camera does is open a shutter to let in light through the lens. Everything else is an accessory, light meter, flash, dof button, vibration reduction, shutter timer,5 shots/second,video, etc. With that I use a nikon d80 and love it. The nikon canon debate has gone on for many years and will continue. Now for lens---nikon and canon are the best; however I use a Tamron 90mm 2.8 macro, and a tamron28-200 zoom. I think (just an opinion) they are as good as the nikon, unless you get the nikon with the VR vibration reduction feature. This cost double, and the benefit could be a saved fstop or two, not sure-Dont have one. Buy anything and have fun! By the way do you know how to post process a little at least to fix white balance. If not does the camera have white bal adjustments?

Hmmm, that is the exact opposite of what I've experienced. In fact, that is what turned me to Canon in the first place, their lenses were about 20% cheaper than the Nikon equivalent.

We're talking about D60 and 30D here  pick either one, it'll be fine.

One thing that no one has mentioned is that the D60 has no AF motor in the body, so you'll have to find lenses that are AF-S or AF-I. It will NOT autofocus the AF or AF-D "screwdriver" lenses like the 50 1.8, 85 1.8, etc.

D60 has 3 focus points... vs 9 on the 30D.

D60 doesn't have DOF preview.

While I agree that Nikon lenses are generally more expensive than their Canon counterpart, you'll have to realize that Nikon offers 5-year warranty vs. Canon's 1-year warranty on glasses.

Thanks to everyone for your help on this I have purchased the D60 on the grounds that I know nothing about photography and I thought the D60 might be easy to learn on and I don't want to be overwhelmed to the point I give up on it and I can always move up as I get experience thanks again to everyone and have a merry Christmas

I have photobucket too -- when you click on the photo (( and it brings up the larger version )) there will be four links to the right of it -- pick the bottom one (( will say "IMG Code )), just click on it, it will copy it for you.

Then, come back to this thread, and hit "Ctrl" and "v" at the same time, and it will give you this --- without the spaces

And would look like this without the spaces.
