My husband brought this soft coral home the other day, and I would like to know what it is, all he could tell me is he thinks it belongs to the leather family. However unlike our other leathers, it is very prickely and expands more in low light rather than brighter light. It is not fully extended in the photo. I'd like to know what it is and any suggestions for placement/care. Thanks

Looks like it could be a Dendronephthya. Which would explain why it expands more in low light, since Dendro's don't care about light all that much.

Not all that easy to keep. Usually likes to be fed constantly.

Khemul,

Thank you for the reply I looked it up and I believe you are correct. I am saddend that a coral with so little prospect of survial in an aquarium has been harvested. I will ask my LFS why they carry these, and also why they would have told my husband it was a variety of leather coral.
