I've got the same crap on my sea whips and its slowly killing them. I think it is diatoms. It comes back within hours of being removed and is light dependent.

Yeah I have a doser dosing both Ca and Alk.

Does it blow off easily? Looks like Cyano, maybe relocate the piece to somewhere with better flow. Does it appear anywhere else in the tank?

Pretty sure we have the same stuff, here is what it looks like on a shell on my foam wall that gets high flow. It's directly in line with the mp10.

+1 cyano, water changes, less feeding, check your lights all help
