Hey all I go tthis clam about 3 months ago and it was doing great. Then all of the sudden, most of its mantle stays withdrawn and when I am around it it closes slowly and not all the way. I am not sure what is up with it. I dont have much clam knowledge at all.

It has been on the sand and then I moved it to a rock where it jumped twicw so it is back on the sand.

I have a mixed tank with thriving sps, lps, etc...

I top off with kalk water, dose with baking soda, and calcium.

Water temp 79-81
Nitrates 5
trites 0
ammonia 0
ph 8.1-8.2
alk 4.0
cal 380 little low

Please help.

what lighting do you have

what fish do you have?

do you drip your kalk top off?

how do you add the baking soda? all at once or drip?

Baking soad in about 4 teaspoons at a time.

Fish just clowns, tangs, blenny, dragnet.

Top off kalk by dumping it in the top off container and letting the floatswitch do the rest.

If this is a problem the way I am doing things then I need to get rid of the clam. Is there still time for it to recover in someone elses tank you think?

what kind of blenny?

are you adding the baking soda to a sump or to the tank?

im asking about how you add things because clams are very sensative to ph and alk swings/spikes

Just a scooter.

As far as the alk, I have been aggressively raising the alk and it seems that this didnt start until then. Is there anyway to reverse the damage and for the clam to pull through.

It died yesterday. :(

No more clams for me I promise you that. They are so awesome, and I was just looking to get a few more. My tank is stocked with sps, lps, zoas, and they are all growing great.

Don't understand really, that's why i'm done. I dont want to chance killing another. It breaks my heart.
