Please help my Coral Beauty

I have successfully qt'd (observation only) a clown, a royal gramma and a YWG. All have ended up being healthy and are now in my DT. My coral beauty went into QT 11 days ago and now I'm getting worried.

I can see some whitening on the tip of his dorsal fin and I've been keeping an eye on it. Today he started flashing. I don't see any white spots on his body and I'm not seeing anything he would be scratching at.

In my research on here I see that flashing could be a sign of marine ick, but no mention of the fin whitening. I looked into fin rot, but there's no mention of flashing. Could it be both together? Hoping someone can diagnose and recommend treatment.

The qt is completely separate from the display and I'm not worried about copper cross contamination, but I read copper cant be used on angels. Unfortunately, ttm is out of the question due to space limitations. Parameters in the qt are normal and I do a water change once a week. He's eating like a pig. No problems there.

I tried to attach a picture (best I could get...he's super fast!) of the whitened fin. Hope it shows up, I've never posted a pic before. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Have you changed the water? Have you done any medication? Do you have any medications on hand like paraguard?

I do 25% water changes every week. I haven't ever used any medication because luckily my other 3 fish were healthy. I'm not sure what medication to give him because I dont know what he has. Or is there a catch all med I can use?

I read up on paraguard today and it sounds like it would help. Grabbing some tonight to get started.

If anyone has any other suggestions for treatment or ideas of what may be wrong, please let me know. I have been really lucky so far in this hobby and nothing has been sick or died (except for the hermit vs snail massacres) and I want to get this guy better ASAP!

could be velvet, brook, or uronema. I would start with a Formalin bath for 50 mins to see how that does for them. After the bath they have to go back into clean water or they will retract the parasite.

Thanks I'll definitely look into that. If I'm not treating the QT tank itself, how do I ensure that the the tank is clean for him to go back in, without destroying the biological filter? If I empty and scrub everything, it's going to cycle again won't it?

Been using paraguard for 4 days. Doesn't seem bothered by it at all. The flashing has pretty much subsided and the white spot is definitely not getting any worse. I'll keep it going for the 21 days, but hopefully he's on the road to recovery!

Paraguard is a good treatment, but I would try Furan 2 which is a broad spectrum antibiotic against gram pos and gram neg bacteria (keep a close eye on ammonia and its best to have established sponge filters in your display tank sump to use in your QT tank when using antibiotics against gram pos bacteria, hyposalinity, or longer durations of antibiotic treatment to keep biofiltration up and keep ammonia down) as this looks a little like fin rot. Is he still flashing against rocks or itching? If so I would also use Quick Cure which contains malachite green and formaline (formaldehyde) this will treat parasitic infections. Going forward I would make sure to have an arsenal of medications on hand such as Methylene Blue, Paraguard which you have, furan 2, Quick Cure, and there are many others. I always recommend looking at this site as it gives a lot of information about medications and their use and disease prevention. http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Medication.html You can also get just about every medication you need from this site.

Great info. Thanks so much.

Forgot to mention about the flashing, he's not doing it now really, but he kind of rubs his face against the pvc. Ive only seen it once and its nowhere near the fast striking motion of the previous flashing. I think it's still technically flashing, but much less frequent and much less forceful, so I think it's getting better. I'll research the other stuff and thanks for the site recommendation.
