a few days ago i got a fresh cut of kenya tree coral from a friend. i put it in my tank and wedged it in between two pieces of LR. at that time it had shriveled up and really withdrawn. it is now about 3 days later and it has shown no signs of improvement. here is a picture:

my water parameters look good. i have a xenia and zoas and they all seem to be doing fine. i have the kenya frag high up in the tank, with lots of light and good flow.

any ideas or tips on what might be the problem? should i continue to wait? it has been 3 days, and the frag has more or less looked the same as the picture. thanks for your help.

Put it lower in the tank, until it gets used to your lighting. It may not like it too much and the lower level of lighting could be just what it needs. Also, don't have too much flow on it but a gentle flow.

i see. ok well i shouldn't say it has a LOT of light as i only have a stock aquapod 12g. 2x27W bulbs. thanks for the tip though, i wll consider moving it down or giving it less flow.

I got one about a month ago - it looked the same way for about 4 days, then started to SLOWLY open up over the next week.

Finicky little sucker!!

my 4 kenya tree frags that i got about 2 months ago took about a week to open up no matter where i put them. but since then they have quadrupled in size possibly because i started dosing iodine and i squirt phytoplankton at it.

good luck

great thank you all for the words... they're making me feel better about this! :)

is this how yours looked before they opened? and is wedging it between two pieces of LR good enough for it to attach? or should i get some glue/rubberbands/something else?

Yes, this is how mine looked.
I actually bought glue from the same lfs the same time I bought the kenya tree frags in case they broke free from the rock they were on, but i didn't need to use it. I have fragged some pulsating zenia on my own. The first time I used elastics and it worked great, I left them on for about two weeks and when I removed them the frag was attached. the second time I tried two frags of the zenia at the same time with elastics, but neither worked, I wished I had tried the glue, but the frags floated around and found their own resting spot.
