Please Help! Powder Blue Tang with Popeye

Wondering if anyone might some Myacin or Myacin 2 to treat for Popeye. Not really sure which one. The information I found online just states that I should treat with a gram postitive-negative anitbiotic or antibacterial.

Not really sure what the exact cause is but maybe a long ride in the bag coming home from the fish store is what I'm reading. The site also says that it could be caused by excess bioload from adding the fish in the tank. I actually noticed a slight bulge in the eyes when I added it to the tank but nothing like it is now. He was in an bag for about 7 hours during our drive home from Los Angeles and acclimation. No other fish seem to be affected and I am getting a QT tank ready treat it.

Any information, advice and/or some Myacin would be greatly appreciated. Can he be left to recover naturally? If not treated, will it still pull through? Seems to be eating still but definately looks stressed.

Thank you,
Ryan

My feelings exactly.

Someone please give me some info. Is Myacin the best means of treatment? If so, should I use Myacin or Myacin 2?

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

check out the no sick fish site. I have a client that used there product in the display tank for popeye on a clown. took about 3 to 4 weeks, but went away. Not sure it was the medication or just time that cured it.

Is it both eyes? I can't tell from the photo. If it is just one eye then it is an injury that will most likely heal on its own. If both eyes then may need treatment.

"check out the no sick fish site."

Thanks, lots of information at the site on it.

It is both eyes, the one visible in the picture is worse than the other though.

I don't notice any of the other symptoms of bacterial infection so I'm thinking it could be due to the power heads... They don't shoot streams of air bubbles, but maybe resulted in supersaturation of gas in the water... Just like when divers ascend too quickly. I'll turn em down to see if he improves.

taken from the no sick fish site...
Supersaturation occurs whenever the pressure of a gas in the water is higher than the pressure of the same gas in the surrounding atmosphere.

could that be the same for being in the bag and then moved into the tank? two different gas pressures?

i did float the bag and drip acclimate him but maybe not enough... hopefully with the pumps turned down he'll get better. If I don't notice it in the next

Thanks for the info,
Ryan

I used to have a ocelaris too where one eye started to develop popeye. I used the maracyn 2 to treat the fish and a week after the eye recovered. You might wanna your power blue tank outside your main tank. When I treated my clown I dosed my main tank and my skimmer went crazy. I don't have the ocelaris anymore cause my tank crashed due to kalkwasser disaster. All my livestocks were given away. Now I'm restarting all over from scratch.

Last night I turned down my power heads... The left eye seems to have recovered but the one on the right still looks the same. If I don't see any improvement on the right eye I will definately QT and treat.

Xinumaster, do you have any of the Maracin 2 left in case I need to treat. If you do, let me know what you want for it.

I might still have some but I live in san jose and might not be enough to treat your fish. I think I have the FW not the SW but they're both the same. The only difference is that the SW maracin has additional vatamins added. You can easily find maracin in any petco store. Try to look there first.

Ryan, move the fish to a QT/Hospital tank and treat with Maracyn 2 per directions on label. This will work very well.

If at all possible don't use a net to catch the fish as the netting could /scratch bother the eyes more.

thanks for the heads up Cayars... I was planning on using a net. I'll make a fish trap today so I don't injure it more.

my wireless connection keeps hanging up and when i come back to this window, it reposts what i last posted.

sorry again for the double post.

Powder Blue is looking so much better! all of the bubble in the left eye is totally gone and on the right eye it is about a quarter of the size it was the other day... have not treated, just turned down the power heads.

Yes, very interesting... i was really worried about having to net him out of the display tank, irritating the eye more. and before that, having to tear the tank apart to get him out. Regardless, I'm very happy he is better.
