I just got back from buying a new heater. My old one stoped working. My temp is down to 70. How fast should I Take it to 78?

70? wow do you keep your house cold? Umm... one day my heater stuck on and the temp went to almost 90 ( i keep it at 82 ) I didnt lose anything thanks god but i also dont have any corals. my advice which might not be worth anything is buy a good heater and just let it do its normal thing. if you jump it to fast it could shock the tank.

Bring the temp up to 74 for one day and after 24 hours bring it up to 78 and you should be fine. The most swing that you would want to encounter is 3 degrees, but some time things happen. I have a Stealth heater which has been very reliable. Also you might want to but a back up heater in your tank if you have the room.

Just set the heater to 79 and let it come up. It will take a while for it to bring it up and everything will have plenty of time to adjust.
