Please Help with Skimmer Setup

I think i may have got a plasic piece of crap from crapbay before i got reading on here to know better. Hopefully you all can help me with ho to tweak this think so maybe i can get some use out of it till i can safe up for a better one.
Problem is it makes foam but it push water into the cup with the foam and the only thing it does is fill up he cup with water.

I see a valve on the output of that pump. Almost close that valve and the water level should stabalise. Then slowly open the valveso that the water level goes up to about half way up the collection cup neck. So give that a try and letus know what happens.

I tried with the valve it is either just enough to overflow water with the foam into the cup or not enough to get the foam up to the cup. The tank it is on is just now going through its cycle could that be the problem? The skimmer has been on my fowlr tank for about 3 months to brreak it in but it has never been adjusted right. THanks for the help maybe the great avice on we can get it going. What else can i try?

Its ok if the foam does not go all the way up to the cup. Once it gets broke in it will build a foam head and push the foam and waste up to the cup.

Thanks its doing a little better after i left about half like you said and left it to run its starting to build up now. Thanks i'll keep you posted.

Excellent, glad to hear its starting to work. I would leave it for about a week to get the manufacturing oils cleaned out and broke in. After that then you can fine tune it to skim dry or wet to your liking.
