I got a dead fish (large wrasse) under my rocks and my other fish are getting sick. I can't see the dead fish but it's in there somewhere. Should I break the tank up to get it out or do massive water changes every 3rd day? I've got a G3 running and it's going crazy right now. I really don't want to break it up but I would if it's my only option.

I would think if you had enough scavengers and changed a bus load of water, over the next few days--- weeks? you'd be fine... How big is the tank? if it's over a hundred gallons, my OPINION is that you might get away with it. You could get another skimmer on that baby too.

check your water parameters. how long ago did the wrasse die? what's your water volume and how big was the wrasse? i'm gonna guess that your ammonia and nitrite levels are up if your other fishes are getting sick. i'd defintely do a water change regardless if you do or do not remove the dead fish.

do you know why the wrasse died? maybe the cause of death might also affecting the other fish.

The tank is 100 gallons. I tested the water and all parameters are ok. To be perfectly honest, I bought this fish from Tong's and I was very hesitant to place it in my tank because EVERY fish I've ever bought there had died but I really liked this one (large Pink Margin fairy wrasse). I just did a 15 gallon water change and I think I'll do another on Friday. Am I the only one who's had horrible luck with Tong's?

Oh and the wrasse died over the long weekend (the tank is in my office at work). The tank is actually a 90 gallon.

The fish dying in your tank should not cause any real problem if every thing else is Ok. I suspect something is not right with your water parameters on the wrasse introduced something to your other fish.
What are your water parameters? Fish do not just die for no reason. If the dead fish is causing problems it would be high ammonia and then Nitrite. What symptoms did the wrasse have, do the other fish have? I would post as much info as possable in the fish desease and treetment forum. hopefuly someone there can help you keep the other fish alive.
Three lessons I learned a long time ago:
DO NOT buy fish at TONGS!!!
Quarantine all fish!
If in doubt water changes!
Good luck with your other fish!

you should ask atafish.com what to do since they always got dead fish in there tank, hah ahahahahahahahahahahahha!!!!!!!!!!!

for reals you should change your water and test it every other day.

thanks for the help guys. I'm going to take your suggestions to heart and NEVER buy fish from Tongs and start up a quarintine tank. I don't see the other fish displaying any overt symptoms of disease so I'm hoping that it has ended. I'll do another 15 gallon water change in 2 days and test again then. Thanks again guys.

All the fish I ever bought from Tong has died on me as well.... I did not know that a lot of other people had the same experince as well.

If you can't find the wrasse but you are sure it is dead, buy a bunch of nassarius snails and they will take care of the body.

Plus do your water changes.
