Please honest answer

Good day everyone... Ok i really need a honest answer on this Shop Vac.. I been trying to see how I get the sand dust and detritus clean on the bb sump.. now I just heard on the other r]thread about Shop Vac.. ( i did research on it online and it looks ok and its affordable)$40 for a 6 gal vac.. Do it really clean the sump and its it safe? also can I use the vac as a siphon machine to do water change? Please honest advise...

Daniel, the shop vac thing was a joke on the other site, not a serious answer. The other options of the turkey baster and even the powerhead were good options. Maybe you will get some better ones here if you ask your original question.

I can't attest to the product you are looking at, but a wet/dry shop vac can actually work for cleaning out a sump, and even taking out water in a hurry. I've done it before many of times, but my preferred method for water changes is a MaxiJet 1200 attached to a piece of vinyl tubing.

Yes, but you'll be losing a lot of water. My advise it try the powerhead idea I stated in your other thread. Works a lot easier.

I dont know why the shop vac option is so funny....

I use a Ridgid 12gal wet/dry shop vac to vacuum out my sump. cost me 60.00 at Home Depot. In the summer I use it to vacuum out my gutters, not to mention I also use it on the floor boards of my SUV.

The tank on the vac is a lil too small for a water change but to just suck up the fish poo it works like a champ.

I just think it's overkill, we're talking about a 15 gallon sump here. A maxi-jet and vinyl tubing would work fine, take up less space, and be cheaper.

What they are saying is plug in a power head to kick up all the detritus collecting at the bottom of your sump. I do that before I do a water change. Get the junk off the bottom and suspended in the water, then drain your sump however you normally do. Problem solved. Just make sure your return pump is off when you do or it will go right back into your display tank.
