I posted the other day asking if this was Aiptasia I was able to get a photo today. I took the snail to the LFS to see if they knew they thought it might be hermit crab eggs?? I just wanted to make sure that this is not the Aiptasia and needs to be removed
Yes they can be. They pack one heck of a punch/sting when they touch something. Usually worse than anemones and other corals that sting. Can you get a closer or macro shot of it?
Okay-did some research on hydroids and found out about "snail fur" caused by hydroids. the only problem is that it says the hydroids live on old snail shells now inhibited by hermit crabs. I have hermit crabs which show no signs of these things. Only the cerith snails. thanks again
You are not going to loose the whole tank. I don't think you really have a problem. If you really want to get rid of it take the snails out of the water for an hour or so to dry out the hydroids.
